Rotary Engine Oil Pan Evolution
In this article you will see the differences in oil pans through the RX-7 evolution. Theses are mostly from newer rotary cars, and it does not contain any 10A, or earlier pictures.
Although it gives you a good overview on how the pans have progressed. Early on the pans were quite simply, on the 12As you had reinforcement brackets that you’d put around the motor to support the pan. Although as they got newer, the started adding the motor mounts onto the oil pans. This is why the FDs are notorious for leaking oil, because there are two motor mounts on the oil pan.
We recommend if you have a rotary car getting an upgraded oil pan from Pineapple Racing. On the FD they added in the extra oil containers in the bottom of oil pan, to help level the oil out during operation. The 20B pan is not stock, it has been modified, and the new RENESIS oil pan is smaller and has a lot more components in it.
