I know that this site is all about the wankel rotary engine, particularly the KKM model used by Mazda. But if you don't mind I'm going to be brainstorming about unconventional rotary designs.

Has there been any other rotary engine that succeeded as an engine? Something that was test driven in a car?

well there is the g-nome roatary engine ( used in some tanks in wwi), but a more common roatary engine, taht is frequently used in cars in eastern europe, is the veovisky rotary engine, which works teh oposit way of a wnkel. it is an leipse rotating in a triangle.
