I have recently brought a 1975 MAZDA 929/Rx4. It has a 12A Bridgeport with Rx 5 gear box. It was running fine, previous owner said it had only 30,000km scince the apex seals were redone. How ever I think he was lying, as it will not start anymore. The mechanic had a quick look at it and said there no compression. Does this mean my seals have worn, and will I have to Rebuild my engine??? _________________ Stevo |

It may just be flooded. The oil injected in the combustion chamber for lubrication actually helps startup compression, but if you flood the engine with fuel, the oil is washed away and the engine will just spin without creating enough compression to start. If you really lost a seal, the engine would only lose compression on ONE rotor; not both.
Pull one plug on each rotor, drain the float bowl, disconnect the fuel pump, unplug the igniters, and crank the engine over with the throttle open for a few seconds. That should expell some of the fuel. Then, squirt an ounce or so of motor oil or ATF into each chamber for lubrication, hook it all back up and crank it over. Once the float bow is full, it should light up...be prepared for a big smoke show until all that oil burns off.
Give it a try. _________________ Blake Qualley
